    About Abernethy

Abernethy is a village in Perth and Kinross in central Scotland. It is home to about 1,500 people, and the majority live in and around the village centre. Abernethy has a long history, of which there are still plenty of traces today. It was once an important political and religious centre in the Pictish kingdom of the area. Since then, churches, bishoprics and priories have left their religious mark on the area, and the current local parish church is still dedicated to Saint Brigid. Abernethy has an interesting local museum, and a famous round tower in Irish style, built in the 11th or 12th century. The small village has two pubs, a shop, a tea room and local activities for children and adults alike. Every year the Abernethy Gala is held in June, and there are many activities happening in Williamson Hall, the town hall of Abernethy.

Abernethy is situated in Perth and Kinross, about 8 miles south-east of Perth, and south of the River Tay and River Earn. Abernethy is reached by the A912 and A913 which comes off the motorway M90 from Edinburgh to Perth by Bridge of Earn. From Abernethy it takes about 15 minutes to drive to Perth, and there are regular bus services. To Edinburgh it is only an hour on the motorway, or an hour and 15 minutes to Glasgow city centre from Abernethy.
