Log Moisture Meter
Know when your logs are ready to use
You’ll find this handy moisture meter invaluable for letting you know when your sawn hardwood and softwood logs are ready for use. Touch the pins against the end of your log and see the moisture content on the large LCD screen. The 4 pin design gives additional accuracy.
How to use the meter
The end of the log is the driest part — there’s more moisture in the centre. You shouldn’t use logs with a moisture reading over 20 per cent as wet logs can cause a nasty build-up of tar in your flue.
Some natural logs sold have a moisture content in excess of 40% when they’re sold. The best way of seasoning them is to store them in a large airy woodshed or log store.
Generally, you should store your logs for at least 12 months before you use them, though some woods, such as beech and oak, can take up to two years.
There’s no need to check Blazer HD logs as they contain less than 10% moisture when they’re sold.
